VR for Everyone

Player Ready is a SEND specialist organisation at its core. We don't just accommodate additional needs — we specialise in them. Every member of staff is trained, every experience can be adapted, and every visitor is welcome.

SEND-Friendly Adaptations

We work with young people with SEND every day. Here's how we make VR accessible.

Trained Staff

All our team are DBS-checked and safeguarding-trained. Many hold additional SEND qualifications and work daily with autistic, ADHD, anxious, and neurodivergent young people.

Personalised Approach

No two visitors are the same. Tell us what works and what doesn't, and we'll tailor the session. Noise levels, lighting, game selection, pacing — all adjustable.

Quiet Sessions

We offer dedicated quiet sessions with reduced capacity, lower lighting, and no background music. Ideal for sensory-sensitive visitors who need a calmer environment.

Visual Schedules

We can provide visual timetables and step-by-step guides for the session so visitors know exactly what to expect before they arrive.

Graduated Introduction

Nervous about VR? We start gentle — a simple, short experience to build confidence before progressing to more immersive games at whatever pace feels right.

Safe Space

If anyone needs to take a break at any point, that's absolutely fine. We have quiet areas at every venue and staff who understand without judgement.

Comfort & Safety

VR should be fun, not stressful. We have options for every comfort level.

Motion Sickness Prevention

Worried about VR motion sickness? We select games carefully, start with stationary experiences, and use comfort settings like snap-turning and vignetting. Most people are absolutely fine, especially with our guidance.

Seated Experiences

Not everyone can or wants to stand for extended periods. We have seated VR options including racing simulators, puzzle games, and narrative experiences that work perfectly sitting down.

Wheelchair Accessible

Our venues have wheelchair access and several of our experiences can be played from a seated position. Contact us before your visit so we can prepare the best setup for you.

Epilepsy & Photosensitivity

Some VR content contains flashing lights. We maintain a list of which games are safe for photosensitive visitors and our staff can guide you to appropriate content.

Hearing Impairments

Many of our games include visual cues alongside audio. We can adjust volumes, provide in-game subtitles where available, and brief players visually before each experience.

Age Appropriateness

We carefully curate content by age group. Under-12s only access age-appropriate games. No exceptions. Parents can review game selections before the session begins.

Before Your Visit

A few things that help us give you the best possible experience.

Let us know about any additional needs

When you book, use the notes field to tell us about any additional needs, sensory sensitivities, or things we should be aware of. The more we know, the better we can prepare.

Visit at quieter times

Weekday mornings and early afternoons tend to be quieter. If you'd prefer a calmer environment, these are great times to visit. We can also arrange private sessions.

Bring a familiar adult

If the visitor feels more comfortable with a parent, carer, or support worker present, they're very welcome to stay throughout. They can watch on external screens or even join in.

Ask about a pre-visit

If it would help to see the venue before the session, we're happy to arrange a short pre-visit so the visitor knows what to expect. Just email or call us.

Venue-Specific Access Information

Each venue has slightly different access. Here are the details.

Plymouth

Plymouth venue offers level access, wheelchair access, and an accessible toilet. All VR stations and the console room are on the ground floor.

Taunton (35 Bridge Street)

Taunton venue moved in November 2024 to 35 Bridge Street with level access to the VR and Gaming Zones. However, the toilet is not classed as wheelchair accessible.

Truro (Chiltern House)

Truro is on the second floor of Chiltern House. The lift is currently unavailable due to landlord restrictions. The venue is accessed via a single flight of stairs at the rear of the building. Please contact us if you have accessibility requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Exeter (Marsh Barton)

The VR arena and HeroZone are on the first floor. However, our coding club and limited VR experiences are available on the ground floor on request for customers unable to use the stairs. Ground floor disabled toilet facilities are also available.

Portsmouth (Fratton Road)

The VR Arcade and Consoles are accessible on the ground floor. The HeroZone (free-roam) and bathroom are on the first floor and are not currently accessible by wheelchair.

We have experience with which experiences and content suit users with physical mobility constraints and users of wheelchairs. We also have many neurodivergent guests and employees. If you or someone you care for has autism, ADHD, or other needs and you wish to discuss this, please contact us.
